An employee at a junkyard in Chicago (USA) left internet users speechless after showing a Ford Escape with nearly 1 million kilometers on the clock.
The video was shared on the Facebook page Auto Parts City and shows a black Ford Escape in a rather sad condition. “This Ford Escape deserves a video just for itself, because this Ford Escape could probably tell a million stories,” the junkyard employee begins.
“So, currently [the car] is black. It was last used as an Uber and Lyft car,” he continues, showing the Uber sticker that was stuck to the inside of the windshield. “But this car started its life as a regular white Ford Escape.”
The Auto Parts City representative then opens the door to show the interior of the car, and indeed, you can see that the car’s internal parts suggest that its original paint color was white.
As he inspects other areas of the vehicle, he finds evidence that the car had also sported other colors. A section near the inner door sill of the front passenger door reveals streaks of yellow and green paint.
“I imagine that at some point here in Chicago, Yellow Cab bought it and painted it yellow. Then after Yellow Cab bought it, the company responsible for the green taxis painted it green. And when they retired it, it ended up being painted black.”
But it wasn’t the color changes that really caught the Auto Parts City employee’s attention; it was the impressive number of kilometers the car had driven: more than 914,000, according to a maintenance sticker from the company Taxi Town.
“I wish I had the key to see if it starts. But I don’t. I think I’m curious enough to check this Escape’s history on Carfax and learn everything about it,” he added at the end of the clip.
The clip has already received over 160,000 views and hundreds of comments from internet users who were amazed by the car. “Ford should put this in a museum,” said one Facebook user. “It earned its retirement,” said another.
“This generation of Escapes are true war tanks. Despite the rust, they just keep going,” wrote a third. “It should be restored. This Ford Escape deserves it,” commented another.
